How to Build with Beam & block

The Ecoconcrete Beam and Block system has been widely used since the 1970s and is now gaining popularity in Kenya. Builders prefer this system because it replaces traditional poured concrete slabs with a faster and more efficient method. It features pre-cast concrete blocks and custom-made reinforced beams, making installation quick and hassle-free.

Why Choose Beam & Block Construction?

  • Saves Time – Install in hours instead of weeks.
  • Prevents Theft – Fewer site materials reduce losses.
  • Requires Less Excavation – No need for deep digging or shuttering.
  • Works in Any Weather – Store beams and blocks outdoors safely.

Step-by-Step Guide to Building with Beam & Block

1. Get a Design & Quotation

Once your architect completes the design, we review the architectural or structural engineer’s drawings to prepare a quote. After approval, we manufacture beams to match your specifications. If construction has already started, we visit the site to confirm measurements and prevent costly errors.

2. Prepare the Foundation

Lay the foundation as usual using stone or a ground column and beam design. Unlike traditional slabs, beam and block flooring stays suspended, reducing excavation work. Place a damp-proof course between the foundation wall and the floor to block moisture.

3. Install the Beam & Block System

  • Carry beams manually and position them following installation drawings.
  • Our team provides on-site technical support to guide workers.
  • Once in place, the floor serves as an instant working platform, allowing construction to continue without delay.

4. Set Up Electrical & Plumbing Services

  • Lay 25mm conduits on the floor before screeding.
  • Create drop points by removing or drilling blocks.
  • Seal voids using a small shutter and mass concrete casting.

5. Finish the Floor

You can either plaster the soffit or attach a suspended ceiling directly to the beams. A 50mm screed covers the floor, securing conduits and creating a smooth surface.

Why Builders Prefer Beam & Block

  • No Need for Shuttering – Saves time and labor.
  • Fast & Easy Installation – Complete in 7 days instead of 40.
  • Strong & Durable – Handles heavy loads and tough conditions.
